Hi all

Could someone tell me, if Business rates is public information. i.e- i would like to know what the name of the company was that was trading at a premises and for how long they had been trading?

The information you are seeking is not really connected with "Business Rates". Whilst the council will know who was paying BR at a certain address and for how long, I do not know if they are permitted or obliged to divulge this info.

Why not just ask the relevant council? If they won't/can't tell you then ask at neighbouring properties. Someone is bound to remember.

Why don't you just google the address? Nowdays most businesses will have some sort of web presence - even if its just a directory listing.

Once you know the business name, if it is a Limited company then details about its trading history, owners etc can be found at http://www.companieshouse.gov.uk (it costs about £1). If its not Limited then I don't think any information is in the public domain.

in scotland it is published online but there is no info on how long they were trading at the premises, However it does tell you if they own it.
