Council tax - 3rd person moving in?

Hi, there was just me and my flatmate living in a 2 bed flat; and we registered the two of us to pay council tax.

However my flatmates girlfriend has just moved in; does this mean we need to pay more council tax? All I can find out is that if its just 1 person you pay less; but what about more than 2?

Hi, no it stays the same if there are 2 or 22 people in the house or flat. A single occupant get 25% discount from the standard rate of concil tax, sorry, the only way to save cash is if you all split the council tax 3 ways then in reality it has just become cheaper for you and your mate. Thats what we did when we had the same scenario at my flat. hope this helps.

Although the amount of Council Tax due doesn't change for having more than 2 occupiers a live in partner will become jointly liable for the council tax therefore you need to inform the council in order that all 3 people are shown as liable.
