Bankruptcy and keeping your job

My ex is about to go bankrupt and he is terrified he will lose his job as a court security guard if he does.

He spoke to his line manager, who seemed to think it would be ok but not sure what head office will say. His contract is a bit ambiguous.

Any thoughts?

OK I only have limited knowledge on bankruptcy but I think I know that if you are declared bankrupt you aren't allowed to be a company director.

Also alot of financial employers, ie banks, accountants, don't employ people who have been declared bankrupt. I suppose it makes sense! :rolleyes:

I personally can't see that it will affect his job though.

the law prevents people who are bankrupt from certain jobs, eg. MP, lawyer, accountant ......some employers also place restrictions on people too ( financail services ) although this isn't legally necessary...he needs to discuss this with his employer, although from what you say it shouldn't be a problem but its up to the employer.

depends on terms and conditions of employment - the procedures/company manual should state specifically what should happen and not be vague. has he checked this? is he member of trade union? if so would ask reps for advice. employer may ask him for statement of affairs - list of incomings and outgoings- and reasons for bankruptcy. must be totally honest and co-operate with them.
