My Dad retires in 23 days....

.....and I'd like to buy him something special or do something special for him.

I don't have alot of money but I'd like to celebrate the fact he's been working for nearly 50 years and now gets to put his feet up. I'm sure my mum has a list of things for him to do but he has an allotment to escape to!:rotfl: He's a true OSer, he'll always DIY it if he can and has had his allotment for nearly 30 years and I've benefited from both over the years. Any ideas?

What about a subscription to his favourite gardening magazine?

Now that he will have more time on his hands, can you think of a diy or gardening tool that he would really like that would make life easier for him?

If you're thinking of a subscription to a gardening magazine...I think you can buy them with tesco vouchers.

How about a subscription to the National Trust so he and your Mum can go and visit some of the lovely gardens they have together for a pittance?

You'd have to check which gradens they open to the public in your neck of the woods.

How about making a Love Cheque Book?

Make a 'cheque book' as near to a real one as you want, fill in each cheque payable to 'Dad' and where you usually write the money put things like a day on the allotment with him, a day at the seaside, tea once a week - whatever you think he would appreciate. When he wants one of them he just rips one out and gives back to you.

These are much appreciated in our family. (My daughter gave me one for Mothers Day and I get to give her a 'cheque' whenever I need a backrub!)

    regards

We must not, in trying to think about how we can make a big difference, ignore the small daily differences we can make which, over time, add up to big differences that we often cannot foresee.
