Selling ring - where to go?

My wife would like to sell a silver ring that she never wears but we're not sure where to sell it. It is silver with about 5 small diamonds in it. Any thoughts on where to take it or sell it?

Cheers

Dave

PS not sure if this is the right area to post it but couldn't really see if there was a better spot.

If you are certain it's silver (as opposed to white gold) then I'm very sorry to say it won't be worth much, and you may be best trying to sell it on ebay to someone who likes the design and wants to wear it. If you sell it to a dealer you will get scrap value for it, which will be peanuts, and they will not give you anything for the diamonds :(
Does it have a hallmark or stamp, and if so, what does it say?
If it is white gold, then have a look on the 'selling gold' thread to see where people are recommending - you need to see who is paying the best price per gramme.

I sold a small packet of broken gold chains, old rings and odd earrings recently and got a couple of hundred pounds for them.

  • I found that the websites buying gold only deal with metals and are not interested in precious stones.

I had a diamond ring to sell and took it to a few local jewellers to see what they would offer me for it. None of them were interested as they said they had too many so weren't buying at the moment but told me I would be better off selling it on Ebay anyway.

I did sell it on Ebay and got a really good price for it (I put it on a Buy it Now for 30 days and it sold after 1 day!) If you do sell it on Ebay, make sure you send it by Special Delivery as jewellery is not insured under Recorded Delivery.

I think if the ring has got diamonds in it, it is more likely to be white gold or maybe if you're really lucky, platinum!!

i had a white gold ring with a lovely good sized emerald in it but when i found out that the few gold dealers online that would take a ring even with stones in it wouldn't even consider the emerald i said to hell with that!

instead i used our local swapcycle and got a really good bike for it!
