where are there factory shops?

thought i would ask if anybody knew of any factory shops as with christmas coming (AAAAAAgh) any savings would be useful. i dont mean the outlet places but the real "factory shops"

In Dundee there is Halley Stephenson who do sewing materials at a fraction of the shop prices, believe they are suppliers to the likes of M&S and John Lewis, with material from a couple of pounds per meter to £15ish for the stuff you would pay £30-40 for in the shops

In Arbroath there is MacKays Jam Factory, they do all the Mrs Bridges, Lakeland, etc. jams, old fashioned boilings (banchory garden centre £2.99 factory shop £1.75 sometimes cheaper for ones without the fancy paper round the lid -got jars passionfruit boilings for 20p a jar), chutneys and marmalades at a fraction of the cost of the shops - great if you are making up hampers, they also sell the hessian bags for putting them in. Stock changes all the time but jars usually from about 60p also often special deals on - got 3 jars pink grapefruit marmalade for a £1, often lucky dip bags for £1 which can contain 4-5 jars of mixture of products.

i know there was a factory shop at the Chicken Factory in Coupar Angus -think its still there but maybe somebody could confirm- Alyth if you're reading this do you have any idea if its still there?

(have done a search but couldn't find a thread for this -apologies if i've duplicated)

Factory shop at Lightbody's in Hamilton near the racecourse. Open weekdays only 10am-2pm, probably closed bank holidays. Birthday cakes, Thorntons cakes, biscuits and supermarket branded ones, near their sell-by date or slightly damaged. Queue early especially at Xmas time, there's always a massive queue. They do limit you sometimes to the amount you buy so everyone gets a fair chance of getting something, which I think is quite right. I queued for half an hour to get a birthday cake for my son last year, should have cost £9 in Asda but I paid around £3. It is all down to luck if you get what you are looking for but worth a look if you don't mind queuing for a while.

Be careful where you park, its on an industrial estate and there's not much parking, big trucks trundling back and forward. Take a bag with you, they do not provide any. Be prepared to be limited to what you can buy, 1 birthday cake on busy days and a couple of packets of brownies or cake bars, you can't buy boxes and boxes of stuff. Staff usually tell you how much you can buy when you go in.
  • burtons biscuit factory at the factory gate in edinburgh (well it used to be,havent been there for a while)
scottish fine soaps in falkirk for soaps and bubble bath and stuff like that.

    i'll think of some more...
    ...work permit granted!
  • a lot of the good factory shops these days you need access to the actual factory.

i get bread, biscuits and whisky all at very reduced rates and all premium brands.
    ...work permit granted!
  • Chicken factory shop is still at Coupar Angus, just at front gate, a portakabin of sorts, good value, M&S branded etc.
  • Glenmuir have a factory shop in Lanark. Bit of hit and miss but can get some reasonable bargains.
