Christmas 3 for 2 gift offers in the shops

I have to buy prizes each year for a Christmas raffle & last year managed to do very well out of all the 3 for 2 gift offers that were around. Does anyone know which high st shops are doing the same this year? I noticed that M&S are only doing it on Beauty & Christmas decorations/cards/wrap (unlike last year).
I have a budget of £5-£7.50 for about 10 prizes for adults (about the price of a nice bottle of wine).
I already know about Tesco/Sainsburies/Boots.

WARNING ON MATALAN 3 FOR 2 offers. Go with a bunch of items all covered by the 3 for 2 offer, and they will give you only the cheapest items free. i.e. I bought today 9 items....2 items @ £12, 1 @£10, 2 @ £4, 1 @ £3 and 3 @ £2. I reckoned I should have saved £15 but Matalan thought only £6. How come? They really do count the cheapest free, so if you were to buy 3 items at £50 each and 3 at £1 each, you would only save £2. However, pay separately for your 3 items at £50 and you get a £50 item free, then pay for your 3 £1 items and get a £1 item free. I don't know of any other store which sorts its prices in this way. M & S, Boots, etc. give you every third item free - e.g. 2 @£12 and 1 @ £10 - they take £10 off, then 2 @ £4 aND 1 @ £3, they would then take £3 off, etc. I don't know if Matalan are doing this deliberately to mislead people or if they just haven't realised what they are doing.

Sparepenge - I buy tombola prizes for a charity (Cats Protection) all year round and also try to take advantage of any offers going.
Do you know about the Marks and Spencers Penny Bazzar on Friday 13th (I think) of November? Five items, a penny (or more) each. I know the items aren't the best, but okay for a raffle. I think there's a thread on here somewhere.

  • It's not a 3 for 2, but M&S are doing Buy One Get One Half Price on their diaries, calendars, gifting stationery and board games. There are lots of products £5 and below which would be ideal for your Christmas raffle.

Last year in matalan when I got to the till the SA mentioned this issue, she then spent ages sorting my items into price order and putting them through separately.... bless her ....... took her forever and I had receipts coming out of my ears but she saved me a fortune.

I was in a rush so didn't have time to sort it there and then, plus the staff member was a bit rude and adamant that she was right. I did mean to email their customer services to complain, but never got round it. :o

It was only a matter of a couple of quid, but it's the principle.
  • all shops do the same - you should make sure you split your shopping in these cases -
bargain shopping is the only way to shop :j
