Did search but couldn't find anything. Knit your own poppy, pattern costs £2.

"All proceeds from the sale of this pattern will be donated to The Poppy Appeal which supports the essential welfare work of The Royal British Legion."

I think it's great that people will be making their own poppies, especially if they buy the pattern.

But please remember that one of the reasons for poppies is to provide work for ex service personnel. The money you pay for the pattern may go to The Royal British Legion, but it won't be used to pay the wages of those who make poppies all year round.

I doubt if the number who knit their own poppy will be significant. But, in a flight of fancy, let's suppose it is. The proceeds to the poppy appeal will presumably not fall as donations will be made in any event. (I am wearing last year's poppy but that does not stop me from donating this year)

If by some chance most of the people donating actually made their own poppy (or recycled last year's as in my case) then the ex servicemen and women could use their time for something more productive to the planet as a whole.

Making poppies (which have no real use) is a waste of time unless it generates more donations.
If it’s not important to you, don’t consume it
