Windows condensation how to get rid ?

Hi,

my windows to my patio door are halfway to the middle with condensation in the mornings, especially the winter, does anyone know to get rid of this, or what I have to buy to get rid of this. Its begining to make my curtains mouldy, and they look horrible.

Anyway help would be great thanks ???

  • might not completely cure the problem but how about this from Lakeland? I had something similar years back when I lived in an older house and although it was a bit fiddly it did the trick

I know that a tip for stopping condensation on bathroom mirrors, is to rub washing up liquid into the mirror. I know that one works quite well.

    Maybe worth a try?

Here's a link to someone asking a similar question.

Someone else has recommended the washing-up liquid. Someone else has suggested shaving foam (hadn't heard of that one).

FWIW my own experience of those moisture absorbing thingies are that they're a complete waste of time (and money).

A dish of salt will work just as well.
  • How does a dish of salt work? Might try the rubbing in of washing up liquid trick as I get very bad condensation on my windows during the winter as I've got single glazed windows. At least I think that's why they get so steamed up with condensation.
  • A dehumidifier is the only way really.

Fairly inexpesive - but can add a fair whack to your electricity bills

We use a dehumidifier to help stop the condensation especially this time of year. It's worth having it on full blast when you first buy one, then just keep it ticking over on a low setting. You'll be amazed how much water is extracted from air.

Keep the water for your steam iron and plants.

PS. Should have asked if you have lots of plants around the house?
  • I have used shaving foam in the past and that seems to work - I also use it to prevent steamy bathroom mirrors.
