I have just bought one of these beauties. The DVD player itself supports:

dvd audio
SVCD
VCD
CD-R
CD-RW

The great thing is it also has a digital in socket which means I have got my xbox connected to it and a cheap multi regional dvd player. Playing halo 2 in full digital surround sound makes the game even better.

It also supports dolby digital, dts, and prologic 2 progressive scan tv's.

The sound from the speakers is tremendous I have mostly used it for music DVDs for now . I know its cheesy but it sounds like your really there. The subwoofer looks like a stand up pc base station and is about the same size. The surround speakers are small but pack a punch.

Setting up the surround invloves you sitting where you normally listen to dvd's going into the setup menu the when prompted you clap your hands over your head and the system reads where you are from each speaker. The setup gave me perfect sound setup. The bass is deep and the treble not tinny at all and picks up every detail of sound.
