Picked up this old thread 'cos my friend mentioned this problem yesterday with his new rubber hot water bottle.
Does anyone have any more ideas?
Thanks
Hi all, I do have an answer to this problem!
I hate the smell of rubber hot water bottles, they litterally keep me awake as the smell is vile! I have found a boots own brand that is made of a different rubber and does not smell, not one bit! They are made in Gemany, have Boots logo on the bottle, they have a number 16 on the back, & the letters TUV and SUD. They are fantastic. Hope this helps

Just a little warning about leaving them for a long time with water in... We were always taught to hang them empty from the bottom, with the tops off, to make sure they were drained properly as the rubber would perish. (In fact they used to have a hole punched in the edge just for that purpose.) I wouldn't like anyone to be scalded when filling them with hot water next winter!
Like the idea of a tumble dryer sheet added under the cover. Maybe a cloth with dilute zoflora sprayed on would work too?The beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you.
Thanks to everyone who contributes to this wonderful forum. I'm very grateful for the guidance and friendliness that I always receive from you.

The plastic ones from Boots are way better than the rubber ones. I've got some I've had for over 20 years. They don't get used very often but I've never had to worry about them perishing. They were a little bit smelly when new, IIRC, but it didn't last too long,.Make £2025 in 2025
