I have read through some of the advise and some of it is quality. Its already been a useful tool. It is also amazing to see how many people are in a similar or in some cases worse situation. Mine is quite simple.
My partner and I have had 2 children in 2 years. She was out of work for 3. In that time I have been paying everything on my own with very little help and obviously debts run up. Our dream is to buy a house of our own as soon as we can. I cant even begin to start with that until we have at least cleared some of the debts away.
We faced up to our debts some time ago and have been proactive in paying them off and keeping in contact with our creditors. I have agreed low payments with most and everybody is getting something each month.
My gripe is that I am going to be 30 soon. I have 2 kids and I dont even own my own house. And although things are under some control, I feel like I am going to be living on such a tight budget for another 10 years. We barely make it through each month as it is. I have no security for my children.
If the exhaust goes on the car I am in trouble. If the fridge breaks I have no money to replace it. I cant see how I am ever going to clear these down at all.
Sorry, but it feels good that I have found a site I can whinge on.
Cheers

Agree with the above (after the funny name bit) , and yes it is good to have a whinge
What you must remember is to keep things in perspective, im only a year or two behind you and im in a similar position (although i luckily dont have kids - i say luckily because i dont want any), lots of people may "own" lots of nice things but if you dig into their finances i bet most of it is on credit and so on.
I hope this experience you are about to undertake will open your eyes to a lot of things, and enable you to give your children the start in life they deserve.
Good luck0 -
With the name Geespot I'm surprised you are able to find yourself
Agreed with above, a statement of affairs is whats needed and then we can give you some pointers as to where you could cut down. Sometimes things that arnt so obvious to you are blatently obvious to us.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040 -

Quick questions, what is the "school" outgoing? How come phone is so high? You could switch to freeview instead of sky.Official DFW Nerd no. 082! :cool:Debt @ 01/01/2014 £16,956 Debt now: £0.00 :j

Hi Geespot
Do you get child benefit and child tax credit? Is your childminder registered. If so you could get help with the childcare costs.
The gas bill looks high.
You haven't included shopping in the budget.0 -
Phone is so high because we are paying back a couple of months where we missed it. Its normally £45 and includes broadband.
My son is 2 and he goes to pre-school which is £62.50 per month. ANd it has been great for him.
None of the above includes food or my travelling expenses to work. I normally blag it.0 -

Hi Geespot, I'm sure the users on the Telephone Boards can get your telephones costs down to even less than £45 per month including bb so pop over there once you have got your arrears sorted and we'll see what we can do.

Hi there Gee
Just to say, is this right your wife is now working? Or not? Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0
