csa1 assessment for 2 seperate cases

Hi all,
I am the NRP's partner, we have just received the new assessment for my partners csa and i have just have a quick question about it.

Ok, he has 2 daughters to 2 different women both on CSA1 so obviously we receive a calculation for both but what confuses me is that the income used in his assessment stays the same for both where i thought that the second assessment should take into account the first 'payment' amount.

i.e. (just using simple figures for ease! )
income used in assessment: 250.00
housing costs: 100.00
disposable income: 150.00
maintenance required: 50.00

we just get the exact same calculation for both where i would have thought the second (younger child) calculation should be:

income used in assessment: 250.00
housing costs: 100.00
other child maintenance: 50.00
disposable income: 100.00
maintenance required:

If anyone can understand what i mean!! can anyone explain why this is not the case? or have they done the calculation wrong as it seems unfair that the second calculation does not take into account the first calculations payment.

Also can someone explain why there is a difference between the maintenance needed and maintenance payble (not sure if i've worded these correctly as i don't have the paperwork with me) basically the first one is what the income support levels say is needed and the second one just seems like a random higher figure the csa have plucked from thin air

Thank you in advance to anyone who can shed light,
fedup x

  • The income used will be the same for both cases, but you should find that the Assessable Income for each case is different. The other poster may have given you a more detailed explanation - but basically the calculation has to work out how much income the NRP has available to calculate maintenance (known as Assessable Income), and then work out the appropriate proportion that each PWC is entitled to take of the NRPs assessable income. The calculation of maintenance is then calculated against the individual PWCs entitlement....

    .....if that made sense??
