Local Debt Advisor/Debt Advisor Skills

I answered an advert in the Oxford Times - earn £150 - £1000 per job.
The person I spoke to invited me to an interview in Reading this last Saturday.
I turned up 10 minutes before time and was kept waiting - apparently the interviewer had had a heart attack.
I was given a 20 question test - scoring 95%.
Then an interview in tandem with another candidate - my score for this was suprisingly 75%.
The job turns out to be one of following up 15 dedicated leads every week, compiling a fact find sheet concerning their finances, going home to work out the solutions (consolidation, sale and rent back, debt management, IVA, managed bankruptcy), then return to the client to feedback.
Oh, and the company concerned, Local Debt Advisors, have a in house compliance department.
Now, to become one of their debt advisors, you have to train as a debt advisor. To do that you enrol on the only national debt advisor course in the UK, with Debt Advisor Skills, at a cost of £6000 for a 5 day course.
The projected income is £40,000 per annum.
I'd be interested in what anyone else thinks........
Especially as there are free debt advice agencies out there such as National Debtline (notice there is a spoof one too!), Pay Plan, Citizens Advice Bureau, CCCS etc, etc..........
So who is going to pay for debt advice?
Isn't this rather unethical?

This sounds horridly similiar to those make yourself a property millionaire seminars that used to be touted around. Some people can see a market opportunity in anything. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0

I'd be VERY suspicious of a job that means you have to pay for a course of 5 days...especially at a cost of £6k. I'd be inclined to decline...or before, find out how debt advisors are trained....then ask why they don't do it that way** Total debt: £6950.82 ± May NSDs 1/10 **** Fat Bum Shrinking: -7/56lbs **
**SPC 2012 #1498 -£152 and 1499 ***
I do it all because I'm scared.

I checked out their status with the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) and they have a Consumer Credit Licence but, and here's the interesting thing, OFT are unable to comment on their status.................
But I am deeply suspicious and, think there must be people paying up money for something that may well be a rip off.......0 -
If they're litigatious and know how to use google I'd be real careful about using the company name in the same paragraph as phrases like "rip off" unless you have proof.
I'd also sooner drink paint than give any company like that any of my hard earned for a "course".If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything0 -

Also, if an employer wanted to put you through a course, wouldn't they pay for it themselves whilst you worked as a trainee, and if the course cost a lot, then either say you stay a certain amount of time or pay it back, or deduct from wages with permission before tax and NI?** Total debt: £6950.82 ± May NSDs 1/10 **** Fat Bum Shrinking: -7/56lbs **
