Loan account closed, but payment not taken from my account
I recently paid my loan off early, with a cheque written by my husband from his account.
But...my husband had a missed call from his bank and on returning the call was told that they hadn't cleared the cheque due them not being able to confirm with him that the cheque was not fraudulent (he doesn't normally write cheques and was therefore seen as unusual behaviour).
I immediately got on the phone and rang my loan company who said that they couldn't so anything as the account was closed and registered as paid in full.
I then recieved a letter from the loan company saying that my account is closed and that it has been paid in full.
This was a month ago, and a payment would normally be due soon. I haven't canclled my direct debit as I am worried about this. I have today also made another call to the loan company and told them that the cheque was never cleared and that the money was never taken from my husbands account. Once again they have said the account is closed but that the will prioritse my query.
Does anybody know where I stand with this? I'm worried that I am going to be penalised for this.
HELP!!!

You seem to be in the clear - it is up to your husband's bank to sort out his cheque.
It is probably on some kind of suspense account - they will debit his account soon so tell him not to spend the money!0
