Guys
I work in a small company and need to buy a fire extinguisher. Does anyone have any ideas on where to buy them, any tips on them?
Thanks

Just before Christmas I saw some in woolies that were foam I think, and were £10ish. They were only small tho, not full size.
I'd advise against water ones, (esp in an office setting with lots of electricals about) and suggest dry powder or foam. The bigger the better really.
I've been looking for a small one for my car hence noticing the one in woolworths0 -
Aldi had them last week at £6.99, not sure of the particulars though - sorryIf at first you don't succeed - destroy all evidence that you tried.0

Carry out a fire (workplace risk) assessment bearing in mind its way too dangerous for yuour staff to be fighting fires (which it is) - thats what you pay the fire brigade for.
Putting fire extinguishers in simply encourages staff to try & kill themselves - problem solved.
Put in smoke detection instead.0 -
You could contact your local Fire Brigade here : http://www.fireservice.co.uk/information/offcontacts.php
I'm sure they will give you plenty of advice and may even do a free risk assessment for you.0 -
Your company probably already does these things but just in case:-
Work
Do all staff and visitors sign in as they arrive and vacate the premises?
Do you hold regular fire drills?
Have you had fire fighting training for staff or training on what to do and how to escape a fire/smoke logged building?
If you haven't had fire fighting training, I agree that it's best left for the fire brigade to tackle. I have had fire fighting training and would be confident and competant to tackle a small (waste paper bin at work or chip pan at home)size fire.
Do you have an appointed Safety/Fire Marshalls who will do a roll call in the event of a fire?
Do you have a muster point outside of the building and does everyone know where it is?
Do you have fitted and working smoke detectors?
Home
We have fire extinguishers, smoke detectors and a fire blanket in the kitchen. I hope we've wasted our moneyand never need to use them but they do give peace of mind.
I hope you don't think I'm lecturing you :-/. If you've done all of the above things........maybe someone else who reads this thread will be prompted to improve their work or home fire safety.10 Dec 2007 - Led Zeppelin - I was there. :j [/COLOR]:cool2: I wear my 50 (gold/red/white) blood donations pin badge with pride. As probably an "expert" - a local authority fire safety officer with 15 years experience. I would echo the thoughts of others - carry out a full fire risk assessment. There is a comprehensive and free online guide on the Office of The Deputy Prime Minister website - http://www.archive.official-documents.co.uk/document/fire/index.htm.
Don't rely on price, but on what is the most suitable for your individual circumstances. Personally I would discourage staff not to use, without full and comprehensive training.0 -
