Bumpy arms / Keratosis Pilaris

Hi everyone

I was wondering if anyone else suffers from red, bumpy upper arms (keratosis pilaris). I've put up with it for around 5 years now and it's a nuicance. I haven't got a terrible case of it but I'd rather it was gone in time for my wedding day. I've tried a couple of things now - exfoliation and AHA lotion. Does anyone have any tried and tested ways of treating this condition?

TIA

Hi yumyums, don't have it myself but remember seeing it mentioned on the Health & Beauty section a few threads here they might be of help to you.
    Booo!!!
  • I've had this for as long as I can remember but have never found anything to completely shift it, it is also worse when stressed so I'll probably be glowing by wedding day:eek:

worst case scenario - can you wear a shrug/bolero etc to cover up if needed?

Sorry I can't help, but I do sympathise.

Mine isn't too bad and it doesn't stop me from wearing sleeveless tops etc, but at the same time I'm conscious that my arms don't look great. I'd rather not wear a shrug and doubt I will ...

Violettas post reminded me that I'd meant to try sulphur soap so I think I'll give this a go, combined with exfoliation and the AHA lotion I've been using. I'm also trying to take Omega 3 supplements regularly. I'll let you know if I have any luck. Even if I just minimise the problem I'll be happy. On the bright side, it doesn't seem to show up in photos.
  • I have just realised I have this all over my legs as well!

I've always known about the bumps on my legs, but never connected that it was the same condition as on my arms.

I think I might start a better routine including proper regular exfoliation and investing in some coconut oil.

It seems that cases could be linked to diet as well, so might look into that too.

Good luck with yours and let us know if the sulphur soap helps.
  • I have had keratosis on the backs of my thighs for years & had no idea what it was - then I read an article in Slimming World magazine back in May that had a recommendation for Clinique Total Turnaround body cream (recommended by, er, someone from Clinique...).

The killer ingredient is salycetic acid, which exfoliates the skin throughout the day - so you still use a body exfoliator in the shower then put this cream on. I ran out to buy some and within a couple of days could notice a difference. I know it sounds too good to be true, but honestly!

It is quite pricy though so now it's a lot better I've switched to a Eucerin 10% urea lotion for everyday & I use the Total Turnaround once a week to keep it off (Total Turnaround is £21 for a smallish tube, the Eucerin is £13 for a bigger bottle!).

Honestly, I thought I was stuck forever with bobbly thighs but I can't recommend Total Turnaround enough! You could try to get a sample from your nearest counter & see if it works - like I say I could notice a difference within a couple of days...
