Bit of a moan ... mistake with dress

A while back I found a really nice used wedding dress on Ebay which seemed to be an absolute bargain as the price new is around £2000. I was pretty sure it would fit me but it's too tight and I won't be able to lose weight to fit into it. At first I thought I could easily get my money back by reselling it on Ebay but I haven't managed to sell it (I put a reserve on there of half the price I paid for it but the bids didn't even reach this). Is the reserve price putting people off? I'm a bit annoyed with myself for buying it and I really don't want to lose too much money as it's an unnecessary addition to the wedding budget.

Any tips on how to sell it would be greatly appreciated. I'd like to get £300 for it but is this too much for a used dress? I've also listed the dress on Preloved but haven't had any responses!

I guess the moral of the story is that it's risky buying a dress on Ebay without trying it on first.

I can't stand reserve auctions and I know quite a lot of people do.

I'd either start the bidding at the least you are willing to accept, or add a buy it now, or add a buy it now and best offer.

I've got a dress I want to sell, so I'm going to bang it on eBay with a buy it now price for what I'd like for it and add a best offer because I'd rather get £20 less than I want (for example) than nothing.

I'm not a fan of selling via e bay. Not for expensive things anyway. I made a beautiful, 1 off dress so thought e bay would be the place. First, you have to trawl through 100's of pages (unless you know what you are after.)
  • Is it not going to be very easy to get your dress altered, or is that not possible. Just thought that might be an alternative to selling it. XXT

People just don't pay decent prices on ebay for wedding dresses. I got my £1200 dress brand new from there for £250

Some good ideas on here! I guess I paid over the odds for it when I bought it on ebay.
It's a zip up back and I can get it on but it's way too tight at the bust. It might be possible to alter it in some way but the problem is I didn't really think it through and bought another dress which is why I'm hoping to get as much of my money back for the original dress. It's so nice as well. Thinking about it now I do wish I'd put more consideration into getting it altered.

I might look for other ways to sell it / sell it on Ebay again but with a starting price instead of reserve. Do you think a starting price of £150 will be too high or should I go to, say, £99.

TBH, I skip all dresses with starting price of over £100. I scan for dresses starting £50 and lower. A lot do go for over £100 from there, but my MSE head stops me looking at those above £100.
:rotfl:Ahahah got my signature removed for claiming MSE thought it was too boring :rotfl:
  • TBH I really wouldn't bother looking at it unless I really wanted the dress, if the starting bid was over £50. This is also because of my MSE head and I would always be thinking that I could get it lower than that. Why not try putting it in the local paper for £150? I sell a lot in ours because I get more money from that and it's free to list in ours if it's under 20 words and under £500. HTH Tiger

  • You all seem very experience in buying or selling wedding dress from ebay. I need some expert advise on buying wedding gown from Ebay.

I have read some forums knowing Landy is quite reliable but sometimes the dress will look different from the photos. I have found a bridal shop from eBay call Daffodil Bridal Couture but not sure how good are they as they look quite new and not many feedbacks. All the dresses they are selling are showing real photos of the dresses so I can get to see the final product before I buy. But is extra £200++

Do you think I should try?
