I think the PMI is a pretty good leading indicator of where manufacturing is heading but a very poor predictor of where the general economy is heading.

My horse got boxed in and had to pull way out right to get a run. By the time Alcopop was out there, the race was all but run.
It was a good win for Shocking. The jockey seemed a decent sort too and will just have trousered a lot of cash for a days work.
I fear my economic predictions are better than my work as a horse racing punter. I do ok betting on the cricket but the horses do me over every time.0
