Reid Furniture Shop

Hi
I need some advice here.

Reid furniture has an offer on at the moment which is advertised in the local papers. The offer that I was interested in was the La Scala 3 seater sofa and I was prepared to purchase 2 of them which would have amounted to £450 approx.

On the advertisement it stated that they were also doing interest free credit for 4 years and pay nothing for the first year.
I went down the Belfast Boucher Road today to make my purchase and they had a note on the suite stating "No interest free credit available on this product".

I confirmed this with a salesman and he said yes no interest free credit on items below £1000. I had had the advert from the paper with me which I then produced and asked him to show where it stated that on the advertisement. He said it will be in the small print (I knew it wasn’t), so he read it out loud and to his surprise it did not state anything about items having to be below £1000 to be eligible for the interest free credit.

He apologised and said there was nothing he can do. I said it was a disgrace as I travelled 40 mile to purchase this suite and stated that this had been illegally advertised and I would be pursuing this further.

Was this correct of me and what do I do now?? Do I write a letter to trading standards?

    Yea i would contact consumerline

  • Well up here in Scotland the minimum order value is £2,000 to qualify for the 4 years interest free credit (according to their latest leaflet) - so unless the 4 years interest free credit was specifically placed over that suite I would doubt if you would get much joy.

Just out of interest what did you make of that particular suite - did it look any good and was it pretty comfortable??

The suite was actually very nice and comfortable!! I would have bought it but the attitude of the sales staff put me off. If they would have accepted that it was wrongly advertised and offered some sorted of inconvenience token I would have been walking out with 2 - 3 seated sofas!! Their loss but what do they care!!
