forcing someone to take their name off a mortgage

just a question hope someone can help:
My friend and her Partner got a mortgage together about 3 years ago, they had a child together and then he walked out after a year, so she has been paying the mortgage at intrest only for almost 2 years. He has walked out with no contact and is not paying any money towards the mortgage, is there any way she could force him to take his name off the mortgage? how would she go about this, she is getting alot of conflicting information. This bloke has got himself into dept in the past the worry is if he gets into debt again they would come for her house.
any help would be appreciated

A court could order the sale of the property. I don't think that they can order his name be removed.
She needs to learn to negotiate. It is in his interests to have his name removed.
