I have 2 months left of my O2 contract so I decided to have a quick check through my bills for the last year.
Quick background, I barely use the thing as when im at home i have MSN and we have a phone at work (which i dont abouse that much
) and at the moment it is costing me 18.99
The main reason I use it is so I can for text messaging, basically because i hate making calls on the thing due to radiation fears and the fact i can barely hear people on it anyways.
Looking through some of the deals on the site I see payg 300 text messages for 10 a month so decided to trawl through my bills sto see how many Ive been using and lo and behold its much less (well 150-200 a month), which to be honest surprised me as i used to be a texthaholic (usually arranging going to the pub)
So out this rubbish contract will go
However
I had been planning ringing up to cancel closer to the date to see what deals they could offer, and was hoping to get a decent enough phone so I could flog it and effectively paying off the majority of my rental
On the one hand I prefer my contract for ease of use, and also not having to put up with the hassle of going out to buy top ups, on the other hand, if its cheaper them im in lust
Any suggestions for which way to go?

Kevicho,
I have orange PAYG and I top up over the internet. Do you still have a debit or credit card you can do that with? *Much* less hassle than going to shop/ atm for top ups. Plus I get two cinema tickets for price of onwe on wednesdays :-D
Come on.. you know contracts are evil.. don'tya....Debt free 4th April 2007.

I have an orange PAYG and I get 30 free text messages a month via the Orange site (limited to 140 characters per message I think it is though) which helps.
As Emmzi said, you also get the Orange Wednesday deal at the cinema which is brilliant if you have someone who will go halves on the ONE ticket you have to buy....a boost to your social life to boot!
Topping up: I do mine on the phone itself...you just have to register a Switch or VISA (heaven forbid) card once then punch in a few numbers when you want to top up.
You can also buy a top up swipe card to use most places (Tesco, newsagents, Sainsburys etc) - VERY EASY and my second fave way to top up.
You can buy text bundles as well. I buy a 50 text bundle to use in a month and they cost 8p each that way. Otherwise they are 12p each. You may even be able to buy more, 50 is enough for me personally so never gone higher.
Finally, they have some deal on if you spend £10 in a week (if you had a heavy texting week maybe!?) you get £5 back. Or something like that - you'd need to check that bit out yourself as I am not 100% sure how it works as I don't use it that much.Bank Balance: In the black for the moment.
Sainsburys Loan: Cleared July 2010
Credit cards: AMEX Airmiles Card: direct debit set to clear balance monthly
