in an attempt to become a bit more old style i'm trying to clear my freezer. I have barbecued spare ribs there from m & s that have a best before date of march 11th. it says to use within a month
would these still be ok to eat or would it be a bit dodgy?

This could sound stupid, but if I am not sure about any food/dish, I smell it.
If there is anything, even a slightest hint, in the smell I dislike, it goes in the bin straight away.
I must have been a dog or a cat in my previous life :rolleyes:0 -
you say they're in the freezer? they won't have gone off in there, maybe the flavour won't be quite the same though
I'd certainly eat them0 -
If you freeze something properly it can be kept for at least a few years.
I would be quite happy to eat it.I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0 -
Best before dates apply to frozen foods? Nooo! you will be telling me they have them on tins next
I agree with everyone above that if they were kept frozen, or frozen on the day of purchase they should still be fine.My first reply was witty and intellectual but I lost it so you got this one instead

Devils Advocate here ...
Just because something is frozen doesn't mean it's sell by/use by is extended indefinitely... It just takes longer to go "off".
Treat anything over 1 year past with caution - domestic freezers simply are not cold enough to keep food in for long periods.
Certainly, defrost first then smell - gets rid of the ice crystals and helps you determine if its ok...The word is BOUGHT, not BROUGHT.
It's LOSE, NOT LOOSE.
You ask for ADVICE not ADVISE.0 -
Do you mena you bought as chilled with a best before date of 11 March but froze them on or before that date? If yes I'd say they'd be fine to eat now.
If you mean you bought them frozen with a use by date of 11 march I'd bin them.
Frozen food can most certainly go off after time. Some years ago I read of a couple who had bought an out of date pizza from a shop and had got food poisoning. the pizza was well over a year out of date though.0
