poppy seeds and white peppercorns

Does anyone know where I can get poppy seeds from? No, not to grow, the sort you put on bread. I haven't seen any for ages , either in the 'baking' areas or the spice racks. Just lately I have resorted to saving the excess that falls of the Poppy seed Baguettes, to put on the next loaf I bake. (now THATS money saving!!!!)

And why can't I find any whole white peppercorns? Black by the bushel, even red or green, but the only white ones are in a mixed jar, and even I am not going to sort them out so that DH can make cheese sauce without the speckles. ( just for the record, he does make the FINEST cheese sauce in the UNIVERSE)

And just so's you can judge for yourselves:-
Tesco Rainbow peppercorns-40g-£2.40 =£6/kilo
Schwartz Mixed -43g-£1.78 =£4.10/kilo

Indians are favourite, also chinese supermarkets have some decent sized bags of this kind of thing.

    Ebay is worth a look
    http://stores.shop.ebay.co.uk/SPICE-CAPITAL-Herbs-Spices-Supplier__W0QQ_armrsZ1 for example ?

Both items here http://www.theasiancookshop.co.uk/ but you'll have better closer and no postage that way.

  • I bought some poppy seeds last week in our local sainsburys, they were in a little pack in the baking section for 39p. They also sell sesame seeds which are also great on bread.

  • Do you have a healthfood shop near you? They often sell spices and seeds much more cheaply than supermarkets, and they tend to have a better range. I know I was hunting round for dill seeds recently to pickle cucumbers and after searching for days, I finally found them in the Wholefoods Co-op not five minutes from my house

I have been looking for white peppercorns for a long time.
They are listed on the Waitrose web site but are not in my nearest store. I live too far out for ocado delivery.
I visit two Sainsbury stores and neither stock white peppercorns.

I think it is luck if your store stocks them.

None of the health food stores in my town stock white peppercorns.

    EDIT:
    White peppercorns? 2006
