995 euros ouch! That would be one expensive publicity stunt
If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!
  • Well I meant the clinic paying someone to have it done to use as publicity really!!!

Anyway would be interesting if anyone has had this done to see if it works.

terra, this mind band thing - from what I read from the OP's link - doesn't actually fit a band. It's all in your mind.

I can't help thinking that if it was that simple, you could just convince yourself you didn't want that chocolate / biscuit / bag of crisps or whatever.

Hi I am a hypnotherapist and this is the lastest trend for weight loss.
Previously we mostly did either specific food aversion- eg not wanting to eat chips, or portion control- feeling full and not wanting to eat more or between meals.
The virtual gastric band thing is just a technique whereby you tell people under hypnosis that they no longer have stomach capacity to eat large amounts of food and is quite effective.

Different therapists may choose to go into glorious detail about people having had a gastric band fitted but this is really not necessary and in some cases may be counterproductive as the subconcious may reject the idea that they have had surgery when there is no physical evidence.

Should always be done in conjunction with the healthy eating, more energy to exercise suggestion

Oh and a typical hypnotherapy session should not cost that much- look online at you local therapists but in the order of £40.

The weight loss hypnotherapy is pretty effective in my experience -60% clients lose weight- but it depends if you get all the info in the pre-interview eg is there a reason why they overeat- trauma etc or if they are truthful eg do they tell you that they sink a bottle of wine a day?!

Yep, like helcat26 I am a hypnotherapist too. I have just attended a training course for the Hypnoband and was very disappointed, all of the work for successful weight reduction is done without the actual "fitting", there seems to be no need to be charging £100's to have a virtual band.
The reasons for being overweight can be dealt with in a couple of "normal" hypnotherapy sessions. Be careful of wasting your money.

  • Thank you for your input. I had one hypno session and it didn't make any difference. I think maybe more than 1 session would have helped and hold my hands up for not continuing.
  • I have booked for a hypnotherapy session to lose some weight, I am keeping my fingers crossed.
  • Just out of curiosity - how many sessions does one need to effectivly inculcate the hypnosis suggestions into a daily habit or before it goes on auto pilot?

Hypnoband still seems to be a cheaper option over the actual gastric band. HAs it actually worked for anyone here?
  • I hope it's ok to say two things.
    1. I've worked with the developers of the Gastric mind Band, Martin & Marion Shirran, to write a book covering the therapy, happy to provide details/links to reviews in a follow-up post if I don't immediately get thrown out for spamming or something!
    2. The fees cover several sessions, not just the 'band op' session, and there are hours of CBT, NLP, information gathering about the clients' eating history, etc., before that session, the one that's caught the imagination of public & press alike, takes place.

May I point out that the name Hypnoband is a registered trademark and you certainly did not attend a Hypnoband training course. I suspect you have been conned by one of our "copy-cats".
