Hypnotherapy for weight loss ....desperateI

Hi all,
I have had a look at the Paul Mckenna method but have to admit I have never succeeded in keeping at it.
Last year I had 1 session of hypnotherapy and to be honest it didn't really work.
I didn't go back for any more which maybe I should have, although looking back I don't think I was in the right 'place' mentally IYSWIM.
However, I am virtually at the point of total desperation. This is awful but I have been contemplating getting dodgy slimming pills off theinterent but the more rational side of me knows this is just plain daft and a health risk.
I am a complusive eater and had a look at the overeaters anon criteria....I think I ticked all apart from 1 or 2 things so yes I have a major issue, actually many many issues with food that are far deeper rooted that just being able to eat less.
My OH unfortunately finds my food issues hard to understand but he is getting better.
I am not hugely overweight.....I weigh 13 stone and am 5'6 so need to lose about 21/2 stone at least but I can't seem to stop the bad patterns I have.
I had been enjoying going to the gym but after my 3 week holiday I completely lost motivation and can't get back to working out again.
Please help. Should I try hypno again or anyone got any advice. The irony is I know what I should be eating and I know I eat carp too...hell I coiuld write a damn book about what you should eat but for the other mental reasons I just can't stop myself.
Thanks

You have all of my sympathy and a lot of personal understanding!
will be interested to see other replies here0 -
Whatever you do, please don't resort to slimming pills, especially off the internet.
I am a very big eater (don't have 'issues' just a huge appetite) and I have lost weight with Slimming World. It allows me to eat large portions of the sort of comfort foods I love - jacket potatoes, pasta, rice etc on a Green Day and lots of fish or meat on an Original Day.
If you feel committed to losing weight, it's more than half the battle, so seize the opportunity while you're feeling this way.
If you go to the website www.slimming-world.co.uk you can find a 7 day menu plan so that you can have a try and see what you think. Also on there, you will be able to find out where the nearest class is to your home, should you decide to give it a whirl.
Good luck
I let my mind wander and it never came back!0 -
Thank you for your replies. I have tried Weight Watchers in the past and did ok but I just find it still doesn't address enough the eating issues in my head. Following a diet (yes, I knwo don't see it as a diet but way of life etc etc) i ultimatley end up feeling deprived/angry/coerced for example.
I HATE living my life trapped in this food obsessed way of thinking0 -
Hi, I had hypnotherapy for weight loss for a while probably about 4-5 sessions. I found them really helpful and it encouraged me to look at what I eat and why I eat. I found that my habits were changing but then I had a family tragedy and was unable to find my way through back to the progress I had made.
Had it not been for the family tragedy then I know that the sessions would have made a huge difference. Its like you said you need to be in the right frame of mind first and allow the hypnotherapy to work.Love a charity shop bargain0 -
I had hypnotherapy and phsycotherapy to deal with my food issues, its sorted those but i haven't lost weight, but thats because I haven't stuck to my side of the bargain.
It took 5 sessions for me. one would have been no where near enough!0 -
I am having counselling for other issues at present and am concerned that trying the hypno now might not 'work' due to the other head stuff I am trying to work out???????
Any advice???0
