Sky+ HD for existing customers: £30 install.

I apologise in advance if this is double posted, or posted in the wrong place!

Sky are now offering Sky Movies customers a free Sky+ HD box - you pay £30 installation.

You need to have some movie channels, but not the whole lot. They're saying you can pay £8 extra a month to get movies added, then you can take advantage of this offer. The HD charge is £10 per month, if you book your installation online you get the first month free (no £10 charge).

This is the cheapest I've seen it for existing customers (without having to 'cancel').

I saw the offer in the Sky Magazine, phoned last night and booked the install this morning for Tuesday 3rd November!

  • Do you have to subscribe to movies for 12 months?
  • Still pricey,I am currently on £18.50 a month.With a free box, I still would have to pay £30 installation, £10 per month for HD channels ( £120 a year ), plus £8 for sky movies ( £96 a year ).
This free box would cost me an extra £246 a year.

When they give you a free HD box, no extra charge for HD channels and no extra channels to be taken then I may be interested.

Good spot though and I am not desrespecting your post.
I am only trying to help

Thank you for putting it into perspective! :o I cancelled the movie package last week a) to save money b) because of the frequency of the repeats.
I'm such a sucker for these deals, so thank you again for saving me from myself

  • For us, it's a decent deal ... we already have the full sky movies package, so it's only really an extra £10 a month for us. We've had the movies for over a year and don't intend to cancel them (with four kids they get watched/recorded a fair bit), so we're happy with this!

My lovely mum treated us to an Lcd Hd-ready tv recently, so I've been keen to get the HD box :D We currently have a refurbished 'version 1' sky+ box from the £49 deal years back - it's on it's last legs now though and keeps crashing mid-recording and losing series link information.

I do realise it's not the cheapest option of Sky/Virgin though - it's just a reasonably affordable way for some of us to get what has previously been a 'new customers only' type promotion.

  • just had an argument with sky. i rang a couple of days ago and told them we have one hd box in one room and a sky+ box in another room. they sais that was fine - i could still have the hd box for free plus £30 install.
today they sent me a text to book it online but when i tried i could not do it.
i rang sky and they said because we already had one hd box it would cost £229 for another hd box. i told them what they could do with their hd box!
looked at the small print and it does say existing customers only if you do not have an hd box already. this is not made clear.
i am very annoyed as we pay £67 a month already!!!!!!!!!!1
  • But is a HD picture any better and worth the £10 a month. From a lot of reports it is not if you have a decent TV anyway.

Right what happen here, the picture is better. Now when people say it is worth it as its no better... The test is hook up your old sky plus box to scart or rgb put bbc 1 one for 5 mins... then load up the hd box and stick bbc hd on or even bbc1 and you will see the difference. OK some programs where not filmed in HD so your not going to get the full HD program. The TV is another thing.
    Kind Regards
