Insurance Payment Mess up

Hi, this is my first post so be kind please. I wasn't sure if this should have been in the credit card forum or weather you would be able to answer my question at all.
My mother was off sick for a long time and claimed on her credit card insurance. It turns out that they paid in a substantial amount more than was agreed which has completely paid off her credit card and left her with a huge amount of credit on her card. I was wondering where she stands? Will she be required to pay this back? Will they demand the repayments that she should have paid over the last two months?
At first we though this was great but she is really starting to worry about this now.
Any help would be great, even just a link to here we can get free impartial advice.
Many Thanks
Chris

'Where do you think your mother stands? She has received a large sum of money to which she was not entitled. Surely any decent person would notify the company they have made an error and ask them to sort it out. Yes, she will be required to pay it back, assuming they don't just automatically arrange for it to be taken back.
As you say she was supposed to make repayments, does this mean she has spent on the card, using the credit that is not hers?
She just needs to let them know they have done it wrong and sort out with them what they are going to do to put it right.0 -
Anyone receiving money they are not entitled to will have to pay it back later when it is found out. Even if it is years down the road.
Best thing is to contact the company and ask them to confirm in writing that the payment made is correct.
One corrected, it is highly unlikely that they would apply interest to any outstanding balance that there would have been.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Thanks dunstonh, she has promised me that she will get this done tomorrow after reading your advice. She was just a little worried that they would take out both months payments in a short space of time, as you said she won't know untill she asks.
Boosyboots, I’m sure you are very well respected member of this forum but could I ask you to be a little more polite. I didn't know where my mother stand's legally on this matter, that is why I asked.
Many Thanks again0 -
I agree danish.
bossyboots - danish came on here asking for advice - first post and specifically asked you to be nice - which should be a given. There is no need for the tone you used - a simple answer would suffice. A lot of people have been in similar situations to this on this boards which shows that obviously a lot of people don't know what to do in this situation.
I just don't understand why you would be so rude to someone when they've only just started coming to the forum maybe you should take another look at the rules - ie BE NICE....DON'T WORRY BE HAPPY
