Selling a diamond ring

I'm sorry if this isn't the right place to ask this, but wasn't sure where to go.
I have a small solitaire diamond ring which was my late Mum's. I would never wear it and want to sell it to raise some cash. Can anyone tell me where I go to sell it - do I just pick a local jeweller or is there somewhere which would offer me a better price. I have no idea what it's worth.

I took a quite large solitaire diamond ring to the pawnbrokers last year (it cost over £1000 new). It was 18k gold. I was offered £35!! They said they couldn't guarantee the quality of the diamond unless I paid to have it tested.

I kept the ring!

Can't give you any help I'm afraid. I just want to say that I hope you think long and hard about selling this ring. Just remember that once it's sold, you won't get it back. That's all.

I'd recommend reposting this thread in the Ebay board, i've seen similar "Where can i sell..." things and people there tend to have good knowledge of traders and dealers.

Take the diamond out sell the gold as gold is high priced... and go take the diamond to a jeweller.
