From this excerpt HERE, it appears that her Father and Brother died in the Titanic disaster. She was not, herself, on the Titanic.0

I've posted thanks to both chinny6 and thingamabob for this one. Does seem unlikely that the heroine dies at the beginning of a book - so I'll take a chance on father and brother! But thumbs up to chinny6 for the comp.0
