bubblewrap insulation "where's cheapest"

Options
hi,
i've got a 8x6 double walled polycarb greenhouse & was wondering the best way to insulate it further from the frost.
so i thought bubble wrap would probably be the best & cheapest way.
anyone know where's the cheapest place to get either 1 or 2 meter high rolls in the sheffield/barnsley area or if cheap enough by post.
thanks.

If you were prepared to selotape sheets together then you could get it for free from your local supermarket. Lots of items i get into store come in bubble wrap, particularly on the fruit and veg section and we just recycle it, but having customers reuse it is even better so it's an idea if you could make use of smaller pieces rather than a roll. Alternatively, if you need larger pieces but still want it for free try asking in a local bed store or furniture store. My partner works for a bed company and all of their new matresses come sealed in bubblewrap, if you asked them maybe they could save you these for free. Just a thought :)

I found work was the best place - free just for carrying it home! You could try freecycle, I also got some from there for my husbands internet shop.

Best bet is to probably ask work colleagues, at the pub or wherever you chat to people, someone is bound to be having a big item delivered that will be covered in cling film.

Ye, it is very good insulation, so long as you can fix it in place? Cheapest too if you get it free!

Think recycle when you ask people!

There is lots on ebay. Go for the large bubble type it provides better insulation than the small bubble type.

Bubble wrap may cut down on light too ?

I have a little paraffin lamp that I leave on very low when it's freezing to keep the temperature above freezing...it doesn't take much.

Storage companies sell BW cheap near me.

The question is not 'Where's cheapest?' but 'How long will you want it & often do you want to replace it?'

Normal bubble wrap is not UV protected and will deteriorate in sunlight very quickly, though if you whip it off quickly in spring, it may give a few season's use.
Proper greenhouse stuff lasts at least 5 years if you look after it, costing around £12.50 per year for an average sized greenhouse.

eBay is probably cheaper, but be sure you are getting the same thing.

It depends how much you value your time and hate the faff of finding new every other year, plus how much you expect to save on heating, saved plants, early start, etc. Those questions are only answerable by the individual.

Oh, and don't forget fixings; it isn't going to sellotape together or stay in the right places without specialist attachments, though owners of wooden greenhouses have a distinct advantage & can use push pins!:D

When I used the 'wrong' stuff years ago, the reality was that it became so brittle I literally hoovered it up! It was behind some polytunnel plastic and I left it in place all season, with predictable results.:o
