Cuisinart - ICE30BCU Ice cream maker

Found via MegaShopBot.com/Kelkoo at House of Fraser for £62.99 and currently there is free delivery on orders over £50 if you can't get to a store.

May be wrong but I think the model mentioned by cooking-mama from Lakeland may be a different model.

Have to say I have been mulling over getting an ice cream maker for some time, and would consider looking further at this model - the Lakeland one was far more than I had wanted to pay. What it does not say though is whether you have to pre-freeze the bowl for several hours.

Shepherdgirl - where did you see the reviews for this model?

Edit: I have since discovered that this product does have a separate bowl which should be placed in the freezer for hours prior to use.
  • Many thanks for your help folks

Have taken the plunge and purchased from House of Fraser, who were really helpful as stock was short.

Loobeyloo - ........ Quite a lot of "buyers reviews" on Amazon, found some mentions in newspaper write ups and also some American review sites. BTW sorry to be so long in answering been offline over the weekend.

Will be making the first batch this pm. All ingredients preped and waiting......

Would love to know how you get on with it over the next few batches if you can update us on this site ... easy, difficult, any problems getting it right etc.

I take it there is a recipe book along with the gadget?

    Good luck!
  • Progress report, as requested.....sorry bit long

Very early days I know, but so far am really really pleased with this purchase. Easy instructions and recipes included.

Unit is not too big and looks ok if you want to leave it out. The bowl is a bit bulky and needs freezing first in an upright position. It's easier if you have chest freezer with some spare room. However as you could probably buy a freezer for the price of the all singing self freezing machines it’s not too bad.

Made up the mix early in the day and allowed to really chill. Had left the bowl in freezer for about 24 hours and then followed the instructions, ie put frozen bowl in machine , put paddle in and pour in mix. Watched it churn, (novelty value, must get out more) ours took about 20-30 mins and voila wonderful result.

The ice cream sticks solidly to the bottom and sides and is softer in the middle. Got as much ice cream as possible out of the bowl (some residue left that was stuck to the bowl, but only a thin covering) put icecream in a container and back in the freezer til required.

The bowl, being so cold, refreezes itself when you try to wash and dry it. Rinsed it out and left it til it really reached room temp and then washed and dried it properly before putting back in freezer for next batch.

Made two batches so far, although neither from the recipes included

Rum & Raison, with full works, ie cream and alcohol .
Took the ice cream to a meal at a friends last night and it got a resounding vote of excellence Got to say it was delish, bad for the hips I guess, but worth it.

Coconut, Lime & Chilli is in the freezer awaiting its' turn. Early indication (ie licking the spoon) was another hit and it will be less calorific than the full cream versions.

Want to experiment with yoghurt based ones as well otherwise all my weight loss will have been in vain LOL

I know its a lot of work making up the recipes before putting in the machine, ie making custard or whatever, waiting for it to get really cold first etc etc, but it is so worth it. You know whats in it and the options are endless.

I tried so long before to get it right by hand and never got anywhere near this level. Used to get so bogged down with watching the clock to take out from freezer and beat, (several times LOL)

To sum up Very simple, but so effective.

    Hope this helps

Off to read more recipe books................
