Old style weedkiller!

Hello all. Have any of you old style garden experts out there got any ideas of how to kill dandylions and other types of weeds without spending money on 'roundup' or having to dig half way to Australia to remove the roots! The dam things are doing my head in.

My old uncle swore by Jeyes fluid for all animal and vegetable interlopers - mind you he was a fully paid up member of both the Slash'n'Burn and Cheap'n'Cheerful societies.0

This works - tried it in our garden, the dandelion goes black within a day and withers away surprisingly quickly.
