What to wear for a night out in Liverpool?

It's our first anniversary and we're off to Liverpool to see Eddie Izzard on Sunday. Thinking of having a meal and hitting a few bars on the Saturday but not sure if I should be dressing up or would I get away with dressy jeans and a dressy top?
I'm usually a jeans and boots person and want to make an effort but a comment from someone at work is making me think I should be in a frock? I don't want to go overdressed but would hate to be underdressed too!
Help!

Hi Carrrera,
I havent been on a night out in Liverpool for a couple of years now, but from what I remember the local girls always used to be very dressed up, dresses and heals etc.Debt free date - 4th December 2008 :j0 -
Hi, I used to live near Liverpool and would echo what CaroleM says, it can be very glam. I guess it depends on where you are planning on going though, if you fancy a few of the bars on the Albert Dock (baby cream, blue bar etc) then I would def recommend dressing up, but if you head for Matthew Street (home of the Cavern Club) then I think anything goes. Whatever you feel most comfortable with I guess, have a lovely timexx0

How about a nice dress with leggings and heels? That way you've got the dress thing going on, but you're not too exposed...?
Have fun xThs signature is out of date because I'm too lazy to update it...0 -
The girls in Liverpool get VERY dressed up and spend the whole day getting ready.
You see alot in town in the day walking around with there rollers in- its the norm.
Id where whatever feels comfortable for you. A dress would be fine or leggings. What ever you wear you will not be over dressed no matter where you will go so I wouldnt worry about that.
Have a lovely time!!New York ♥..........These street will make you feel brand new, Big lights will inspire you.
No place in the world that can compare ♥ 2nd October 2010 ♥0 -
this needs to be said im afraid................ black curly wig and a shellsuit would suffice lol:rotfl:0

Depends on where you are going after the show...if it's a club rather than a bar, do you have time to get spray painted orange, get plastic claws stuck on the end of your fingers, take off 98% of your clothing and carry your spike heels in one hand, bottle of cheap vodka mixer in the other, whilst screaming 'HE AIN'T WORTH IT!!!!!!!!!!' down the street?
If not, smart trousers/expensive jeans and a pretty top + heels would be lovely.
Happy Anniversary!I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -

Shellsuits went out years ago, it's pyjamas now.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.

Relax! You're not out on the pull, are you?!
My DD is 21, when she goes into Liverpool with her friends and/or BF for a Saturday night, she usually wears a dressy top, skinny jeans and nice pumps (because she's already tall)) or a dressy dress and leggings. She makes an effort with her hair, make-up and accessories.
There are loads of different types of people out in Liverpool on a Saturday night, lots of students and more mature people too! Not everyone out for a night out in Liverpool is a tangoed-tart!!0 -
Avoid Mathew Street. Full of youngsters who cannot hold their ale.
Try Albert Dock which is very near to the Arena and has a number of bars as already mentioned.
In the new Liverpool One complex there are a number of restaurants and a couple of bars near the new Hilton.
Nowadays, you seemed to be able to get away with smart casual jeans but with no trainies !!
