Is this too much travelling? Opinions much appreciated

  • we've been to a couple of weddings where the church was about an hour away from the venue, one in Dublin where we were picked up from the hotel by a coach, taken to the church then after the ceremony to the venue, there were 2 coaches back one earlier and one later - it worked well and it was really nice not to have to worry about any traveling/parking arrangements etc. The only hitch was the return coach driver getting lost! it took about an hour and three quarters to get back to the hotel! But we were surrounded by drunk Irish people sininging so it passed quickly!!

The second, my OH was bridesmaid, so I drove to the venue after the church (as did quite a few others) as we wanted to have the car there the following day, but again they put a coach on and no-one minded.

I'd say go with what you want, just let guests know the plans so they can work out travel arrangements.

Will the coach be doing a lot of trips back? As if not you will need to think about people who need to leave early etc.

Where in Bristol are you getting married? We're marrying in April as well at the registry on Corn Street, and we're also having a late ceremony and going straight into the evening!

Just the one trip, its too expensive to do any more than that.

That might be an issue for me to be honest - will there by any children at the reception? Or any older people? They may not want to have to stay right until the end

Would it be possible to have just one more trip back to allow people to leave early if they want to?

i am having same dilemma only its not quite 45 miles... more like 15. I too am looking at coaches which still make it cheaper. we have pot for cabs in emergency for ppl NEEDING to leave early but 50% of our guests are closer to the venue for the reception and the others are travelling to be with us anyway. go for it!

Go for it - if you lay on coaches then there shouldnt be a problem. I know that when my cousin got married, she married in her local village and her wedding breakfast was held at a hotel 45 miles away too - it wasnt a problem and she didnt lay on a coach as most people drove anyway and those that didnt got lifts.

Thanks guys, have been texting people last night and general consensus seems to be that it won't be a problem, either they are happy to drive and stay over or will come on the coach and those that want to do that think it will be a good laugh, in fact might even go on the coach myself, Im not having them having fun without me lol!!! xx

When we worked it out, there were a lot more people coming to the evening from close to the pub and so wont be transporting as many people as we had first thought. Like you it will still work out cheaper to do do it this way. xx
