Hi wilson
I work as a Domicillary support worker for people with learning disabilities for social services, for me its so rewarding ,i work out in the community i support different people to shopping, personal care, its all common sense really
communicating with some one could be pointing to things, pitcure cards,i work with someone who is deaf and get on fine with hand gestures. If this is something you really want to do go for it.Try looking on council websites you could also put your name down and do some bank shifts which is good money and give you an idea if you like the job or not.Maybe do a search on social care or your local council.0 -
Hello Wilson
personally I would advise against reading up too much about it, and provide a very technical answer if you have not experience/knowledge of this area.
When you are interviewed people will not expect a perfect answer, but lots of common sense and willingness to learn.
When you interview someone without experience you look for the potential.
I have refused jobs to people who sounded like they were reading their answer from a book, but employed plenty of people who showed common sense, transferable skills and also awareness that they needed to learn new skills.
If you are keen to work in this field doing voluntary work is a good way in, if you are able to do it.
PS just ignore certain people who have been rude, and don't take it personally. First they don't know what they are talking about, and second they always say things that upset people.0
