Returning item bought online to a store-can I?

I bought a toy from Argos online for my daughter's Xmas (Baby Born Wooden Wardrobe) It has fallen to bits and is unrepairable.
I can't find the delivery note, but if I hunt, I'll be able to find the bank statement the transaction appears on.
As this item weighs a ton, can it be returned to a store (with copy of bank statement as proof of purchase) for a refund/exchange?

  • if you have kept the box there will be a argos item code on there which identifies you have bought it from them. they should accept your bank statement as proof of purchase, as they can also check their records on the date of purchase.

i have returned an item without a receipt once because i had the box it came in
the item code was on it.
they accepted and exchanged my item and issued me with a fresh receipt

hope that helps-sorry if my words are abit mismatch my grammar is appalling
  • Unfortunately I don't have the box as it was huge

Yes, if you've got the delivery number it'll make it even quicker for them to find from their end. Or just phone up argos direct since you bought it online, they do free returns - it would save you lugging a heavy item into town.

just a quick note that the store won't be able to trace your order from their system, they'll have to phone up to do it as stores can only look at sales that they have taken in-store on their own tills for the last three months.

  • Thanks for that-I'll see what info I can find before I contact them :)

if you phone up argos direct them will give you the code that would mean you could return it to a store.
    Nice to save.
