Barclays & Co-Op Account...where can I open them?

I went into my main Barclays branch last Thursday, asked to open a cash account but was told fill in a form, send it off; has nothing to do with us! I felt like a right criminal just asking. However I filled the form in wrong and got my Mum to get me another one yesterday from a different branch but they said they could do it on the system straight away? Is that correct as that would be a lot easier and quicker?

Do the Co-Op open them on the spot too as there is one only a couple of miles away and just been offered a job so need a bank account asap!:j

Barclays Cash Card Accounts can be opened in branch now. This started happening this year. You get the account details on the same day. For ID, just bring your UK passport or drivers licence. It will count as both proof of name and address.

Please be aware that in your situation, online banking won't be available. After BR, you can have online banking though.

If you really need online banking, go for the Co-op Cashminder Account, which will give you online banking. It could be opened over the phone or in branch. If I were you, open it in branch, so you could show ID immediately, and if there are any problems, it could be solved there and then.

I opened a co-op cashminder account over the phone a couple of weeks ago. It took about 10 minutes, and I didn't need to send ID. Received everything within a week and rang to register for internet banking (that
took about 90 seconds!). So far so good with the co-op, very impressed!

    Good luck!!!:j

Same as Anne2, applied over the phone, accepted straight away, everything up and running in a couple of days. This could take longer at the moment due to the postal strike. Not sure about opening one in a branch. If you ring the number on the website they should be able to answer all your questions.

Thank you for all your replies!

I went to the local town 10 miles away as there was a Co-Op branch their, thought I would try Barclays again first as they are a lot local to me at home and would be easier. I was very impressed with them, they did not judge me, served me straight away and gave me all the relevant information and were very quick.

The guy even offered me online banking if I wanted it...can't wait for this FRESH start! :j

I doubt it.....according to nokia's posts bankruptcy only happened a couple of weeks ago

so if they've offered online banking while still undischarged it'll dissapear soon enough..

I am a undischarged bankrupt. I went bankrupt 2/3 weeks ago but I refused the online banking as I would not use it.
