Hi all
I see quite a few posts around that people say "Cleaned Kitchen" "Sorted out ebay cupboard" and then follow up with a "Not a money saver but had to be done" quote.
well they are money savers , Why? Because while you are doing it , you are not spending. I find doing these little tasks get me motivated as well.
It has certainly helped my situation , to resolve one non financial issue per day.
Today , I am sorting out the garage. Load sof bricks and empty boxes and tins and stuff. Going to friends tomorrow so can go pst the tip.
No money saved , a but sometghing else in my life not nagging me

Me too - a no spend day today so cleaning the flat out. Cant possibly spend money when I'm up my ears in dust. The early bird gets the worm but the second mouse gets the cheese :cool:0

If my home is a mess, cluttered or dusty then I get down about it, if I get down I run the risk of wanting to spend. Therefore I set myself sorting and cleaning challenges every week. My way of staying debt-free.0

Good post John.
I'd add that as well as not spending money whilst doing these activities, it also leads to a more tidied and organised life - and that goes hand-in-hand with tidy and organised finances. From my own experience I think it is a mindset.. when I was spending too much and racking up debt it was all a bit willy-nilly, together with my life in general. Now my budgeting is more ordered and that makes my life ordered as well.
(Um I think I am rambling but *I* know what I mean!)

well this is a bit of strange tactic but I've taken up running and have found its really helped me not to spend money
Every time I feel like I need to go clothes shopping (usually because I'm bored/worried about a social events/have been reading to many of the fashion magazines we get free at work) or I think I might not want whatever I've salvaged from the back of my food cupboard and actually I quite fancy spending a tenner on pointless food in supermarket .. I put my trainers on and go for at least a half an hour run - nine times out of ten by the time I come back I've changed my mind/talked myself out of it/forgotten I ever decided to go - and I'm way to hungry to trek all the way to the supermarket for exciting food! err..well. it works for me anyway!
Am running the British 10k in July, my first 'proper' run and I'll be raising money for charity - so I think I've almost generated money in the process - sort of! :rotfl:0 -
This is all so true. I've found that since trying to get straight with money i'm organising my life so much better too. From the house, to business to the children...things are starting to run more smoothly. Still a way to go though!January budget

Oh heck! Wish I hadn't read this thread - I feel sooooooo guilty!
I've let the housework slide lately as I'm juggling full-time work with exam revision. The most MSE thing I've done in the last fortnight is to buy myself a slow cooker. It's already saved me time and money - I've cooked nearly everything in my cupboards (saving money) and bunging it all in the slow cooker saves me loads of time.
But - - the flat! I'm amazed the man from the council hasn't been round to condemn the place! I even gave myself the morning off from my books to have a tidy round and have done zilch.
Better go and remedy this.
