What can the offical reciever take? (tax)

I have finally got notice from the tax office of the tax credit award for 2002/2003.This was due to me having a child in 2002 and I hadn't claimed it before. (I found out through this site) took a while to get the info together and items got lost in the post:rolleyes:
It appears that the tax office have sent the repayment to the offical reciever, because I was made bankrupt in 2006. Is this right? I assumed as it was a benefit (tax credit) I thought I was entitled to it!
Please advice, many thanks, michelle

  • After a long wait it seems I'm entitled to the tax credit for the year 02/03. I had a child in 2002 and after finding out from this site I may be entitled to this I made a claim. Problem is they are sending the repayment to the offical reciever, is this correct? I thought being a benefit the money should go to myself as I am entitled to it!
    please advice, many thanks, michelle

No your not. Because its not a benefit.

The 02/03 period was not Tax Credits as a benefit like it is now. It was within your tax code so you simply would have paid less tax at the time. As it was tax and not a benefit, its not yours and HMRC have to hand it over to the OR.

Sorry. But on the plus side, you haven't really missed it. But the perk would have been nice.
  • Well I finally got through to the OR and they have confirmed what skylight said, such a bummer, that money would have really come in handy for christmas :(
