Well, I put this on the quick questions thread, but seeing as I haven't had any takers:
I just popped into the 99p shop and they had spray-bottles of vinegar - as I'd just run out I bought one and jolly good it is too. They also had stardrops in spray bottles but I'm not paying 99p for that, good Lord!
My question is to those who use these things; if I make my own Stardrops spray bottle (I usually just put a squirt in the sink, fill with hot water and dip my cloth in that) how much Stardrops and how much water should I use? I've got plenty of spray bottles which is why I didn't want to pay 99p for watered-down Stardrops when I can make my own...
Also, if I refill the vinegar bottle, what proportions of vinegar/water should I use there?
I know you all know these things but I'd never thought of using a spray before...

Vinegar - at least 1 cup of vinegar to 5 cups of water, but I've diluted it more than that in the past, and its worked fine.
No idea about the stardrops.“The ideas of debtor and creditor as to what constitutes a good time never coincide.”

I did not know you could buy stardrops neat to water down, I just buy a spray bottle and it lasts ages.
Vineger cleaning it depends on what you want to clean. Copper and brass I just put a bit on a cloth. I have just cleaned my bathroom with 50/50 vinegar and water in an old spray bottle. If winter comes, can spring be far behind?

I tells you on the bottle, but from memory it's about one tablespoon of Stardrops to 4 litres of water.0 -

Neat will last a LOT longer.
Just been to look at my bottle, for the benefit of ChocClare too. It says for general cleaning 8 to 15ml of Stardrops to 4.5 litres of water.
So, some quick calculations Bottle contains 600ml of Stardrops, make full strength at15ml, 600 / 15 = 40 so you can make 40 * 4.5 litres of spray from one bottle of neat stardrops. That's 180 litres!!!!!0 -
Hi chocclare,
i pour about 1/4 way up my spray bottle, then top up with water.I like quite a strong mix. Happy os cleaning.:j0 -
Jumping in here!
What proportions for a Stardrops/Vinegar/Water mix?.....0 -
I am in the process of converting to OS cleaning products, i.e. using up what I have left and replacing with OS stuff
I am confused about whether it would be better to have a spray bottle for stardrops and a spray bottle for vinegar, or to make one bottle of multipurpose cleaner for all occasions!
Does stardrops have a smell?0 -
Kethrey's standard mix is one-third each of Stardrops, white vinegar and water. This works as an all-purpose spray cleaner for all surfaces, including windows. Use sparingly, as it goes a very long way.
Stardrops doesn't smell of much. The spray mixture does smell of vinegar at first, but it disappears very quickly.
The diluted vinegar is mildly anti-bacterial, but it is NOT a disinfectant. The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0 -
I use the 1/3 mix ratio as Stephen Leak stated though i'm starting to think you could put in less Stardrops and more water as it really does foam up quickly.
Either way it works a treat on most things.
I'm a big fan.0
