Please let me know how you get on with them I rang the head office on Monday regarding terminating my agreement. I was put through to my local office and the guy said that he will pt my request through and the RAC would contact me within 48 hrs. I still haven't heard from he RAC!
I read the threads on here and I realised that I had to put the request in writing (local office didn't mention that). I sent my letter on Tuesday recorded delivery).
That afternoon I received a call from the manager of the loacl branch. He was basically saying that it was bad idea, that I would end up with a liability of £4000 or more. This I don't believe because I have had the car for 37 mths out of a 48 mth agreement. He was on the phone for almost 30 mins trying to persuade me not to do so. I am going ahead, and I am waiting for a response to my letter.
Can some advise on how I proceed? Am worried that I might not get a reply to my letter. What do I do then?0 -

Check out this guide from National Debtline:

If you have made payments more than or equal to 50% of the total amount repayable you may exercise your right to voluntary termination, don't let them tell you otherwise. Your liability will be limited to compensation to Welcome for damage or excessive wear.
You've done well to send the letter recorded delivery so that you have proof they have received it. I'd give it two weeks (remember there's postal strikes) and if you've had no response write to them again letting them know that you know they received your last letter and that you have proof. You could also call them again and demand that they give you instructions on how to return the vehicle.
There's a few people on here who've had problems with Welcome, I'm sure they'll be someone along soon.
Just a few questions:
What kind of condition is the vehicle in?
Have you had it regularly serviced?
Is it still taxed and MOT'd?
Have you had / do you have any arrears?
Regards

Don't know whether it is of any help, but we were thinking of voluntarily terminating our agreement with Welcome a few months back, but we decided against it because I love my car lol. Anyhoo, the number I was given, which puts you straight through to their terminations department is:
0845 4918914Starting weight 17st 4lb - weight now 15st 2lbs
30lb lost of 30lb by June 2012 :j:j:j (80lb overall goal)0 -
Thanks for the advise Underground.
The car is in good condition. It's Vauxall Corsa (52 reg) and it's been serviced every year. Next service is due December 2009. It's taxed until Feb 2010 and MOT valid until July 2010.
I do, however, have 3 months arrears (pay £271 a month). Have been paying £300 a month for the past 5 mths to clear the arrears. Will this affect he decision on voluntary termination? I have had he contract since Sepember 2006 and it was for 48 months. Due to financial reasons, I have decided that a car isn't a priority and I am to do without it, thus the voluntary termination route. I explained all this to the manager but he didn't want to know.
The only thing though, I have decided not to renew the insurance. This runs out end of November. Since I sent the letter to welcome, I have stopped using the car and it's parked on my drive.0 -

I don't think that leaving the car on the drive uninsured is a very good idea to tell you the truth, especially at this time of the year. Have you considered getting monthly insurance instead?Starting weight 17st 4lb - weight now 15st 2lbs

hi everyone, I am new on here my prob is, I got a ford focus on a 02 plate 2 yrs 3 months ago, so it was already 5 yrs old or maybe a bit older and the screen price was £5999 so well over priced at the time. i used my old car as px and the give me £1000 for it. because i have bad credit anyway they said the finance is against the car and not me. the finance term was 5 yrs, i didnt pay for the car for the 1st 6 months cos work went down hill and couldnt afford the repayments, so when they got in touch with me they lowered the repayment but have stretched the term to 10 yrs. so now i have a job as a taxi driver i am now paying for this car and insurance and now a settle car. i asked them for a early settlement figure and they quoted me £8641.36. i have had the car valued and i am only getting p/x quotes of £1500 tops. I just dont know where i stand regarding this situation. if i pay it for the remainder of the term to total payable is £16k. im even trying to see if i can px it and need the next car company to make me an offer and see if welcome will except it as a buyout figure......any help would be much appreciated on this matter0
