Scared to spend money!

Hello
While we are waiting for our trustee to make us bankrupt, I am finding that I am scared to spend any money
I think what if I'm spending too much on grocery shopping, what if I'm spending too much on winter jackets for the kids (bought second hand off ebay so I could buy them 2 each), what if what if what if!! OH has only just got a job after a year unemployed so it's not like we have much spare money, but I just keep worrying!!
Is this normal? anyone else like this? Have to say that OH is not like that he says if there's spare money and we need it just buy it!

awww petal first off hugs for you..ts an emotional roller coaster in the lead up to bankruptcy and im not suprised your feeling stressed and worried.
Its ok, the OR is not going to worry about essentials, if you were off buying luxuries like a £300 handbag then far enough but you need food, and your children need clothes. if you have done your statement of affairs and have your budget then sticking to that now is fine.
it will get easier, deep breath and be kind to yourself, you have made the best decision you can for you and your family, and the road will get less bumpy.

Your OH is right, if there is something essential that needs bought - food, clothes etc, then it has to be bought. Its not like you are buying a plasma tv or anything so just make sure that your family's & your needs are taken care of and stop worrying! It is normal to worry and you probably won't stop worrying, but stop feeling guilty about buying essentials!
You should also check out some of the shopping boards on here as they are good for pointing you in the direction of bargains!
p.s. - you sound like me - I constantly worry over whether it is the right thing to spend xxx amount on anything lol!BSC #215/No.1 Jan 09 Club0 -

Hi and good luck with your BR.
We don`t go to court until late November but I am confused with above statement, could anyone please explain it to me?:pB&SC No. 298

Hi
Thank you all for your replies, I find myself worrying about everything at the moment! We have not done a SOA yet, it is better to do one each or a joint one? Will go have a look at the shopping boards - didn't realise there were so many boards here
Dojoman - We we are in a (Scottish) trust deed that has failed because we could not to meet the payments after OH lost his job a year ago, so the trustee has no option other than to make us bankrupt (we cannot do it ourselves as we're in a trust deed, only to trustee can make you bankrupt). Hope that answers your question, if not I'll try to explain betterGood luck in November, hope it goes a smooth as can be expected.

It is good you are thinking about your spending, but equally you do need to spend some money to live! Even though I am not a DFW or bankrupt we are on a tight budget, and I understand what you mean about justifying what you spend.....sounds like you are doing your best though! Hope everything goes ok for you and as long as you are not buying porsches or gold plated coats for the kids I am sure you will be fine!

I'm in a similar situation and know how you feel! Now that I've stopped paying my debts I actually have quite a bit of surplus money after my essential expenses (stopping paying my ex half the mortgage has helped a lot in itself!). But, as I've posted before, I'm not sure what to do with this money! If I spend it all on frivilous stuff I'm sure the OR won't be happy - and I'd feel too guilty anyway. But as I live on my own, no kids etc, there's very little I can justifyingly spend it on! I'm getting my car serviced and going to opticians to get new glasses etc, but not sure what else! I guess I can take a chunk out next month and use it for xmas shopping? - the OR might technically not be impressed but I'll just say I wanted one last good xmas before I knew it was all going to get a bit tight with my IPA. After all, if it wasn't for you guys on here I WOULD be more worried and emotional than I am, and so it's not surprising if I want to have some happy times while I can?

No harm in getting your christmas shopping done early!
