A little help here :(

Options
Hi,
I dont know if this is the right section, But im after some wise words of help...

My mom let it slip the other day that she has purchased an item for christmas - some ghd hair straighteners for my little sister - when I asked how much and where from, she just said a site online and they were just under £60.00...

On hearing this i was slightly worried as we all know how much they cost, so I managed to track down with her the site and ask sent an email asking when they would be delivered and if the transaction had gone through.

The transaction has and they were sent on the 25th apparently....From China. It was a company called https://www.ghdfad.com which I have learnt is not a genuine retailer,
Has anyone been through these and if so has my mom been ripped off and what can she expect to recieve....

I feel so bad for her as she is a novice online and is learning, She was so proud for doing it and now Im not sure what to tell her....

Any input greatly received

It does sound like its a bit too good to be true- the current going price for GHD's is around £90. The genuine GHD website does have a website checker- they know who they sell their GHD's to and if its not on the list, its unlikely they are genuine (i.e unless they were stolen from a salon!) The link to the site is here: http://www.ghdhair.com/

I would tell her- its important that she gets her money back if possible-has the received the item yet and did she pay by credit card? I am not sure how the rules work but I have heard credit cards tend to be better at refunding errors like fraudulent activity- it may be worth giving them a call to discuss it.

Try to remember, its not what you tell her, its how you tell her- there are different ways to tell someone they have been scammed, its easy to get caught out- just as you have pointed out- she's a novice and the Internet is unfortunately not set up to help novice's. Maybe you could let her know how you knew? or introduce her to this site? its not something that you just know- make that clear to her- its through forums, discussions and other peoples mistakes that we find out that things are fake or scams, its just unfortunate it happens when it does. I am sure there are many other things your mum can do on the net that are excellent and benefit her alot- maybe make a point of reminding her of these after you have let her know.

A good plan of action on how to deal with whats happened is also another idea- firstly to direct the anger at the company and secondly to try to rectify whats happened!

    Hope you get things sorted.

    Thanks Jenniewb,

I am waiting to hear back from ParcelForce as I have a tracking number which shows on there website as being in transit.

I think I will have to wait and see what we get,
I may have to see what the returns procedure is and go from there but I dont think they are going to be genuine somehow so it will be a lot of money for some fakes....

    Thanks again

I think that if they are genuine, they'll have a security code or similar on them, you then go to the GHD website to verify and register them for the 2 year guarentee- if they are genuine, it'll all be fine, if not, they'll tell you. HTH.
