Credit report default expiry question

I have a default on my Experion credit report. The date of the default is recorded as 30/06/00 and the balance is satisfied.
Below that it says "File updated for the period to 07/10/01
I need to know when I can expect this default to disappear off the report. I know that defaults are kept on file for six years but will this be six years from the date of the default or six years since it was updated? Six years from the date of the default would be the end of next month, how quickly are the files updated? I want to change my current account ASAP but have failed credit checks before due to this default.

The report says "Defaulted accounts are kept on file for six years from the date of the default, even if they are subsequently marked as satisfied by the lender."
The six years are up at the end of June this year. I just wondered if anyone had experience of how quickly after the expiry they actually disappear from the report. I might take Broken hearted's advice and phone Experion mid July. Presumably I'll need to do the same with Equifax."A nation of plenty so concerned with gain" - Isley Brothers - Harvest for the World0 -
As far as i know it shoud automatically drop off after the six years,ie if you checked 1/7 it should be off
