Anyone had ceramic braces as an adult?

Hello
I'm seriously considering orthodontic treatment to correct a couple of issues i have with my teeth. I've looked into invisalign but think it will be a bit too expensive, so i'm thinking of ceramic braces (that blend better with your teeth than the mental ones). I was wondering if anyone has any experience of having ceramic braces fitted as an adult? I'm 30 and previously had a metal brace on my top teeth whan i was 16 but my teeth have since moved (and i want to sort out the bottom set now!). If you've done this would you mind sharing how long you wore them for, what were you correcting (twisted teeth, gaps etc), where in the UK you are based and if possible, what was the cost?
Thanks you in advance

I had braces in my late teens that went on the inside of my teeth - so they were not visible, and got rid of a gap between my front teeth and generally straightened them out.
They were more expensive than regular braces - sorry I cant remember by how much. The only problem was that when they were first fitted it was hard to talk!0 -
I had braces in my teens and when I got older my two front teeth started to overlap and the two next to them went back slightly which made things look even worse. I got fixed braces on my top teeth two years ago to correct this. I was a bit worried as I worked in a school and was expecting the kids to find it funny. Most of them didn't even notice and the ones that did thought it was cool! Most adults also thought it was great (something they would like to do but didn't have the nerve). I had my brace on for only nine months. I now have a fixed retainer on the back of my front teeth. I can honestly say it's the best thing I could have done. It cost me £1300 which I paid in monthly installments. I now smile a lot!0

had appointment in sept with private orthodontist,
my teeth were straight until i was 29. then my upper left canine erupted. so pushed my top teeth on left forward(ul1 sticks out alot) and the ur1 pushed inward and behind ul1. and this year my lower right wisdom tooth has made my lower rights crooked. i can't smile, if i do i have ul1 and ur canine stick out , looks stupid, lol.
anyway, i was told the top braces would be the clear plastic braces and bottoms would need to be metal. and quoted me £3000, and treatment 18months. which i thought is a good price. ( but expensive when a carer, and im on ib due to M.E) oh yeah, and i need teeth removed, which i'm not looking forward too.
however, inbetween appointments i had a letter from the dental hospital, who have got in touch almost a year sooner telling me im at the top of the waiting list. so although i will only get the metal braces there, im lucky to get free treatment. and in a place that can sort out any other problems, if i have any. but im not worried about how they look, as really need the treatment to be comfortable.
im 31. so will be interesting to have braces on, never had them before. i hope i can loose weight with wearing them. ( i have had my last box of thorntons, lol, and will give up most sugary foods)
i don't know if at the end of the treatment they will put the metal brace like things at the back of my bottom front teeth or not, to stop them moving
again? if not i shall then go to a private ortho to get that seen too.
Good Luck.THANKS to everyone who posts competitions. you are all :A.0 -
Get yourself over to Metal Mouth Message Board http://www.archwired.com/phpbb2/index.php it has a mine of information and lots of before, during and after photos.
I started orthodontic treatment in Feb 08 and hopefully will be having braces off before Xmas :j so just under 2 years. I have ceramic on the top and metal on the bottom (for severe overcrowding - had to have 4 extractions) but wish i'd just gone for metal top and bottom.
I've been very lucky and not had any problems at all. Haven't really had to give up any foods (although I would stay away from chewing gum) and have managed to put weight on .
I'm in Manchester area and it's cost 2,400 in total.0 -

BTW i'm in my 40s and really regret not getting it done sooner.
Don't want to scare anyone but here's a "before" picture - you can see I had a lot of problems that needed fixing :eek:0 -

Hiya, been looking into this myself - which dentist are you with? I live in greater manchester and am struggling to find an orthodontist that does ceramics. Are you paying over a few months?0
