Hi all..anyone offer me advice here,I have moved into a 2 bedroom house private landlord @£480 a month.I am a single male in his 40 's & on jobseekers. The local council tell me they will only pay £184.70 every two weeks, which leaves a shortfall,I have moved from a 1 bedroom flat ,rented privately paying £550 a month which was fully paid.Different council though.I have a friend who lives alone in a 4 bedroom house & her rent is fully paid for.,again rented privately.
Is there any way to appeal this..is this right?Do I qualify for any further benefits?
Thank you

That looks about right . They will pay you the going rate for a 1 bedroom property which in your area must be £184.70. You have chosen to have a more expensive 2 bedroom property so therefore must pay the difference. You could also move back to the other council's area?

It's only £80 per month. I hope it isn't that much to find. Think of it this way it's more of an incentive to get a job.. Good luck.

:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

    As to the shortfall
Contact your LA and enquire about the Discretionary Housing Payment scheme - this could be paid in addition to your rent, bare in mind its a limited fund and looked at on a case to case basis
