help. daughter has googled 'sex'

:eek:having browsed the history pages i think (as we wouldn't especially as we know) that either of dd1 or 2 ages 8 and 6 have googled this and some other words like kissing, snog, fat a*se and have seen some you tube videos.
i can understand their curiosity but am shocked at how young they are to even think of googling. how should i approach them and what would i say.....

any suggestions what to do??

In my day we just looked the words up in a dictionary - the joys of modern technology.

What do you want to say to them?
Can you put parental controls on the PC and point out to them that you are taking more control of their online activities

Kids discover things at different ages, and tend to pick up on a lot from other kids at school. Why not sit your girls down and (calmly) say that you've noticed that they've been interested in some new things which they may have heard about at school, and do they want to talk about them.

Kids are naturally curious, and were probably interested by the "taboo" associations of what they googled. If you remain calm and reasonable and talk to them about it in an open, honest manner that is appropriate for their age, then I can't see you having a problem with it.

If you make a big deal out of it, on the other hand, or simply implement parental controls without telling them why then you may end up with problems. If you want to implement parental controls, then by all means do, but explain to the kids why you're doing it - tell them that while you're quite happy for them to discuss what they have heard about with you, it's not appropriate for them to be looking it up on the internet :).

    Hope this helps!
  • for a start go to Google home page and in the top right hand corner is the 'settings' option -click on this and you will be presented with a page that give you many options including a filter. Choose "Use strict filtering (Filter both explicit text and explicit images)". I'm in my 30s and have no kids and i personally use moderate search because you can get nasty stuff for obscure searches!

If she's watched a Youtube video then you aren't keeping an eye on her.
Put the computer in the living room if it's not there already.
And watch them, it's your responsibility.

Set up an account for the girls and then restrict what sites they can look at. You can also block sites and other things not suitable for their age. My daughter has to ask me for permission if she wants to go on certain sites and I let her if it`s suitable. I also regularly check her history and all her msn conversations are saved. Her email address will only accept emails from people that I have allowed and everything else is instantly deleted.

At 8 I didn't have any interest (I actually remember the first discussion I had with a peer about sex and it was only then I really thought about people doing it, although I knew about sex: my mother bred dogs, my randfather bred horses). On the other hand, my nieces had immense curiosity before 8 years old. My sister took the oppertunity to have a talk to them about it. 8 isn't so young for basic info when it seems more and more girls are menstruating by 9 years old. :(
