childrens bed tent

I was going to buy a pink children bed tent for my girls bunk beds but the prices are far too expensive, they want one fro christmas.

I want to try and make one as they look quite basic for what they are.
I was going to buy a cheap pink duvet cover as I know that I would be able to wash it when it got a bit grubby.I also thought I'd make the straps with velcro something like the tabs on curtains.

Has any one any tips or made one before.
Kind Regards
Maz

Have you tried googling "bed tent pattern"?

I bought a tent thingy for my grandson for his birthday last week and paid € 10.99 for it in IKEA...it would be less in Sterling.....that's if you have a branch near you.

I made one of these for my son when he was little. What I did was to make a valance with VERY long sides.

In other words, I got a single sheet, trimmed it to the size of the mattress and I sewed rectangles of fabric to one long side and both short sides. For the remaining long side, I cut two rectangles of fabric, meeting in the centre. I gathered my fabric, but you needn't. I then laid the trimmed sheet on the base of the top bunk and put the mattress over the top of it. The rectangles of fabric hung down the back and sides and the "front" had a flap (2 rectangles of fabric) for my son to get into his tent. I sewed ties along these edges so he could "lock himself in".

It did take quite a bit of fabric - I used old (cheapo) sheets. If you can get it for a tenner in Ikea, then that's probably cheaper than you could make it if you've got to buy the fabric.

    Hope it goes well, anyway!

I have a spare curtain that just happens to match my DD's duvet covers and is more or less the length of her bunkbeds and long enough to reach from the floor to the upper bunk, plus a bit extra. Found it at a jumble sale. I basically just hang it along the side of the bed, tucked through the frame and under the mattress of the upper bunk. Works a treat and took zero sewing.
