Lloyds Loan "insurance"

Hi there,

I took out a loan with Lloyds last October, I received a statement through yesterday that has £855 Protection insurance on.. I've called them up as I have no idea what it is and I know that I was never told about any insurance and even if I was I would never had agreed to it as I never do.. I called them this morning to query and was told that they could take it off but only if I agreed to a new credit check and a new loan?! I don't understand why I should be punished for their screw up! I've logged a complaint with them and I'm going to put it in writing as well but does anyone know if I have to take out a new loan in order for them to take this "insurance" off?

Thanks
C
